How to reduce bedroom allergies

A bad indoor climate in the bedroom can be bad for your sleep and health. Therefore, you should give your bedroom a health check once in a while.

One of the most common causes of allergies in the bedroom is moisture and dust. Dust mites thrive on both, but your health does not. Allergies can cause unpleasant symptoms if you do not do something about the cause of the allergy.

JYSK has gathered 7 tips on how to reduce bedroom allergies:

1. Wash your duvets and pillows at 60 degrees

We recommended that you wash your duvet at least once a year. Remember to always follow the washing instructions.

2. Air your duvet and pillow outside as often as possible

It's important to avoid humid weather and direct sunlight, as this can damage the down filling.

3. Wash your bed linen often

We recommend that you wash your bedding at 60 degrees at least every 14 days.

4. Use a mattress topper

A mattress topper protects your mattress and is easy to wash. We recommend that you wash it at 60 degrees 6-12 times a year.

5. Remember to air out your home

Ventilate with a draft for 5-10 minutes three times a day and in connection with bathing and cooking.

6.  Have a minimum of 20 degrees in all rooms

If you want to sleep cool, then turn down the heat in the bedroom right before bedtime

7. Thoroughly clean your bedroom once a week

When you vacuum and dust your bedroom regularly, you ensure the air is clear of allergens and dust particles.

What is causing allergies in the bedroom?

In addition to ensuring a good night's sleep, you should also consider allergies when choosing a new duvet or pillow. If you experience waking up with a stuffy or runny nose, itching, eczema, coughing fits or other hypersensitivity symptoms, it may be a sign of an allergic reaction. An allergic reaction can be caused by several different things, but a frequent reason is house dust mites, which are microscopic animals that cannot be seen with the naked eye.
