Choosing the right duvet

A good night's sleep is essential for your health and to ensure you have energy for the day. One of the ways you can improve your sleep is to invest in a good duvet. Which quilt is right for you is determined by a variety of factors, such as the size of your bed, changing seasons, and the temperature of your room.

The benefits of using a winter duvet and summer duvet

Many people use the same comforter all year, but it's more optimal to use two - a summer duvet and a winter duvet. A summer duvet helps you avoid overheating on warm summer nights, while a winter duvet will help keep you warm in the cold. This also makes your duvets last longer, and you won't need to replace them as often. Changing quilts between season is also a good opportunity to wash them. You can also consider a 4-seasons duvet that can be used throughout the whole year. A 4-season duvet consists of a cool duvet and a warm duvet. The two comforters can be used both separately and together, as they can be combined with buttons or a zipper, to help you achieve the right amount of insolation needed.

Duvet tog and fill power

The duvet tog is a unit that determines how well a duvet insulates heat, and will therefore help you determine how warm the duvet is. The higher the tog rating, the warmer the duvet is. At JYSK, you can find duvets in three different temperature categories based on their tog ratings:

If you are purchasing a duvet with natural filling, you should also look at the fill power. Fill power is a measurement used to determine how much air the duvet can hold and how efficiently it traps heat to ensure optimal insulation. The higher the fill power, the better the duvet is at trapping heat and keeping you warm. This means that a duvet with lower fill power needs more filling to provide the same amount of insulation as a duvet with higher fill power. A duvet with high fill power is not necessarily a warm duvet. You can also have a cool duvet with high fill power, but it will have less filling.

Types of duvet filling

In JYSK's selection, you can find duvets with natural filling and with fibre filling, as well as weight duvet. Each type of duvet has their own characteristics and benefits.

Natural filling

A duvet with natural filling will usually consist of duck or goose feathers or down, but you can also find wool duvets. Duvets with a natural filling have a great level of insulation while being light and breathable.

Fibre filling

A duvet with fibre filling consists of synthetically made fibre, and is a budget-friendly alternative to a down duvet. Synthetic fibre filling is great at temperature-regulating and transporting sweat away from the body.

Weight duvet

A weight duvet consists of glass bead filling that makes the duvet extra heavy. The heavy weight of the duvet creates a calm and soft pressure that can help some people relax and sleep better.

The different duvet sizes

At JYSK, you can find a variety of duvet sizes for both children and adults. Find a size of duvet that matches the size of your bed, or choose a duvet with extra length if you're tall or prefer a longer duvet.

How to wash your duvet

We advise that you wash your duvet 2-4 a year as it helps it last longer. If you have a duvet with natural filling, the down or feathers will collapse over time, decreasing the level og insulation. You can keep the level of insulation up by washing your comforter regularly. Most duvets with natural and fibre filling can be machine washed, but always check the washing instructions on the individual quilt. If you suffer from dust mite allergy, you should purchase a duvet that can be washed at 60 degrees C, as dust mites cannot survive at this temperature. If your duvet has a natural filling, use an enzyme-free detergent, as ordinary detergents contain enzymes which remove the natural fat from feathers and down. Dry the duvet in the dryer together with two or three dryer balls to make sure the filling is evenly distributed and doesn't clump together.
