Choosing the right mattress size

At JYSK, you can find bed mattresses in a wide variety of sizes. What mattress size is right for you depends on several factors, so before deciding you should consider:

  • What size is your room? Do you have room for a smaller or bigger bed?
  • Do you already have a bed frame or bed base? If you do, you should pick the mattress size that fits your frame or base.
  • How many people are going to sleep on the mattress? Do you sleep alone, or do you share your mattress with a partner?
  • How much space do you need? If you prefer extra sleeping space, you should size up.

We offer the following mattress sizes:

Single mattress

A single mattress measures 3'0" x 6'3" (90x190 cm) or 3'0" x 6'6" (90x200 cm) and fits one person. A single mattress is a great option for a guest bed, for larger children, in a small bedroom, or if you need to fit more than one bed in the room. You can also combine two single mattresses to form a super king made from two singles. This is especially useful if you and your partner have different preferences for firmness. Place a super king size mattress topper on top to eliminate the gap between the mattresses.

Small double mattress

A small double mattress measures 4'0" x 6'3" (120x190 cm) and is sometimes referred to as a queen size mattress. A small double mattress is optimal for the single sleeper who prefers a bit more space than a single mattress. The small double mattress is also a popular choice for the teenage room or the holiday home, where it provides a bit more room to sleep, without taking up too much space.

Double mattress and euro double mattress

A double mattress measures 4'6" x 6'3" (135x190 cm) while a euro double mattress measures 4'7" x 6'6" (140x200 cm). Doubles mattresses can fit a single sleeper who prefers plenty of space, or a couple who require little room, or has a small bedroom.

A king size mattress measures 5'0" x 6'6" (150x200 cm). A king size mattress can fit two people, and is therefore a great choice for couples with a smaller bedroom or flat.

Super king size mattress

A super king size mattress measures 6'0" x 6'6" (180x200 cm) and is our largest mattress option. This is the perfect option for couples who require more sleeping space, or if one partner moves around a lot during the night. The super king size is also preferable for families with children, as there is plenty of room if someone sneaks in during the night.

Which mattress type is best?

At JYSK, we offer a wide selection of spring mattresses and foam mattresses, as well as mattress toppers. Whether you should choose a spring mattress or foam mattress mostly depends on your personal preference, but can also be affected by your preferred sleeping position. The most important thing is that you feel comfortable on your mattress. As it can take some time to break in a mattress, we offer 100 days trial, when you purchase a GOLD mattress.

Advantages of a spring mattress

A spring mattress consist of a core of one or two layers of springs and is typically padded with a layer of foam. Spring mattresses offer great support. The more springs found in the mattress, the more nuanced support, which make it easy to find a mattress with the right level of support. This can especially be beneficial for side sleepers, as the deep shoulder zones give great support. Spring mattresses also offer great breathability, which is preferable for people who tend to get warm during the night.

Advantages of a foam mattress

A foam mattress can be made from several layers of different types of foam, offering different levels of comfort and support, depending on the foam types used. With a wide variety of foams with different characteristics, it's easy to find a mattress that fits your particular needs. A foam mattress will adapt to your body when you sleep - a popular choice of foam is memory foam, which shapes to the contours of your body and offers stable support. A foam mattress is less lively than a spring mattress, which makes it less likely for you to be disturbed by a moving partner during the night.

How to choose the correct mattress firmness

At JYSK, we offer bed mattresses with three levels of firmness:

As with most aspects when choosing a mattress, choosing the right mattress firmness is highly dependent on your personal preference. However, the right mattress firmness is also determined by your body weight and your preferred sleeping position. A general rule of thumb is that the more you weigh, the firmer your mattress should be.

The best mattress firmness for side sleepers

If you tend to sleep on your side, the best option for you would generally be a medium-firm mattress. When you lie on your side, most of your body weight is concentrated on your shoulders and hips. A medium-firm mattress provides softness and allows these areas of your body to sink in, while still keeping you spine straight.

The best mattress firmness for back sleepers

If you sleep on your back, the optimal choice for you would be a firm mattress or an extra firm mattress. Back sleepers need extra back support, especially on the lower back, and a mattress that is too soft can cause discomfort for your neck and back.

The best mattress firmness for stomach sleepers

Sleeping on your stomach is not recommended, as it creates pressure on your back, lumbar area, and neck. If you sleep on your stomach, it could indicate that your current mattress is either too soft or too firm, and you should look for a mattress that provides better support when sleeping on your back or on your side.
