This year, colour of the year is not just one, but two colours: The two colours are called “Ultimate Grey” – a practical and solid grey and “Illuminating” – a warm and joyful yellow.

It is the colour experts at American colour company Pantone that each year announces the colour of the year. Their choice become trending colours and are a great inspiration for designers across the world.

With this year’s pairing of colours, Pantone sends us “a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting”.

Your home can also benefit from the dynamic combination of a strong, calm grey and an optimistic, vibrant yellow. The grey colour is a classic that you can find in both furniture and décor.

The yellow colour is more common in hometex such as table linen and décor and in a shiny version, in gold coloured candlesticks.

Using only one or the other in your décor can get quite boring or a bit overwhelming. But when combined the two colours are very powerful.

Create a yellow and grey living room

If you want to play it safe, use the grey as your base and the yellow as little splashes of joy around the living room or dining room: A grey sofa with a yellow cushion or throw or grey dining chairs at a table with a yellow table runner.

Yellow is the colour of light while the steady grey speaks more of strength. The combination of colours highlight how we can bring out the best in each other and support one another, just like the grey and the yellow do. A reminder that we all need from time to time.
