Sturdy and reliable wooden garden chairs

The best outdoor furniture is often made from quality hardwood, so if you’re ready to make an investment that will stand the test of time, choosing a set of wooden outdoor garden furniture could be a smart move.

JYSK has a good range of wooden outdoor garden chairs, most of which are made from FSC-certified hardwood and designed to suit a variety of styles from classic to contemporary. If you’re aiming for the timeless appeal of traditional furniture, stained or painted options are available that wouldn’t look out of place in the pages of a glossy homes and gardens magazine. Our deck furniture can be matched with other items from our solid wood collection, including wooden garden benches and solid wood tables in a variety of finishes.

Wooden garden chairs sit comfortably within the landscape and offer a natural point of rest – how about placing one in your favourite spot and relaxing with a good book?

By nature, wooden and hardwood garden chairs need to be treated and maintained if you want to really make use of them over many summers. Learn how to maintain your furniture correctly to avoid any risks of it cracking and drying.

1. Initial oil treatment
Once your wooden garden chairs are unpacked and assembled, apply a fresh coat of garden furniture oil. Time in storage or transit may have dried out the wood, so reapplying oil helps nourish and protect it from the start.

2. Regular cleaning
Keep your wooden garden chairs clean throughout the season. A gentle pressure washer or soft brush with soapy water works well to remove dirt and debris. Ensure the wood is thoroughly dry before applying any oil. Always use cleaning products and oils that are suitable for hardwood furniture.

3. Seasonal oil maintenance
To maintain their durability and natural look, wooden garden chairs made from hardwood should be treated with oil two to three times during the warmer months, and again before storing them for winter. Be sure the chairs are completely dry and clean before applying each coat. If your chairs are made of teak, you can skip the oiling unless you want to preserve the original golden hue—teak naturally weathers to a silver-grey patina. If you choose to oil teak, continued maintenance will be necessary.

4. Proper winter storage
To extend the life of your wooden garden chairs, store them properly over the winter. Avoid placing them in warm indoor spaces that could dry out the wood. Instead, store them in a garage, shed, or other sheltered area with good ventilation. Do not cover them with plastic or tarps that trap moisture, as this can lead to mold, mildew, or rot.
