Curtains and blinds for your windows

The difference between curtains and blinds

Whether you should choose curtains or blinds, primarily depends on your personal taste and needs, and whether you value aesthetics or function the most.

Window blinds

Window blinds have many functional benefits and can help you achieve a simple and minimalist look. Unlike curtains, blinds are made of slats or panels that can be tilted, raised or lowered to adjust the amount of light entering the room. Blinds don't take up much space in the room, and with a big variety in different types of blinds, it's easy to find a solution that fits your windows and your needs.

Curtains

Besides functional purposes, curtains can also play a role in terms of aesthetics of the room. Curtains are available in a wide variety of styles, materials, colours and heaviness that can compliment the rest of your decor. Curtains also allow you to layer both heavy and sheer curtains so you can enjoy the benefits of different options of sheerness and heaviness.

Different types of blinds for windows

Window blinds are a very practical and convenient form of window dressing. At JYSK, you can find a variety of different types of blinds for windows that each offer different benefits and functions.

Roller blinds

The traditional roller blinds consists of a single piece of fabric that rolls up into a tube when raised. Roller blinds are classic and sleek, and are available in many different colours and patterns. You can also find a wide variety of blackout roller blinds or day and night blinds.

Venetian blinds

Venetian blinds are made of horizontal slats that can be tilted to control the amount of light and privacy. They can also be fully raised to allow for an unobstructed view through the window. Venetian blinds are classic and versatile and can be used in many different rooms.

Vertical blinds

Vertical blinds consist of vertical slats that can be tilted to control the amount of light and privacy. Vertical blinds can be drawn to the side leaving the window fully open. Vertical blinds are an excellent option for large windows as well as patio and balcony doors.

Which curtains or blinds should you choose?

With a wide selection of different curtains and blinds, it can be difficult to decide what is right for your home. The right curtains or blinds are very much affected by your specific preferences, but also by which room they are placed in, the amount of privacy needed, preferred insulation level, and the type and size of the window.

Window dressing for different rooms

The practical needs of the window dressing can vary significantly depending on the room. For example, your needs will be very different in the living or dining room compared to the bedroom. In the bedroom blackout curtains or blackout blinds will be the optimal solution, as they ensure that minimal light enters room for a good night's sleep. On the contrary, in the living or dining room, you will most likely prefer a window dressing solution that blocks direct and bright sunlight while still letting in plenty of light. Sheer curtains, venetian blinds, vertical blinds or day and night blinds can help you achieve this.

The right amount of privacy

Depending on your living situation the need for privacy can vary greatly. If your windows are placed in a way where no strangers can look inside, maybe you don't need any. However, if you have windows out to a busy road or neigbours can see through your window from their home, you can benefit from a window dressing solution that gives you privacy, while still letting in natural light. You can consider a sheer curtain or venetian or vertical blinds that can be tilted to adjust how much can be seen through the window. An alternative to curtains and blinds is window film that applies directly on the window glass, blurring the view through the window.

Insulating curtains

If you have additional insulation needs, it's possible to find extra thick insulating curtains that can help improve the indoor climate in your home. These curtains have additional insulating features that can help keep out heat, insulate against the cold, or dampen noise. Learn more about insulating curtains.

If you have a large floor to ceiling window panel or a patio or balcony door, vertical blinds is an exceptional choice, as they make the room appear bigger and require minimal maintenance.
