How to care for wooden garden furniture?
Wooden garden tables bring natural beauty and warmth to your outdoor space, but they do require regular care to withstand the ever-changing British weather. With the right maintenance, your JYSK wooden garden table can be enjoyed for many summers to come.
Oil treatment before use
Even if your wooden garden table has been pre-oiled, we recommend applying a fresh coat of wood oil immediately after assembly. This ensures the wood is well-protected, especially after time spent in storage or transport.
Thorough cleaning
Before treating with oil, clean your table thoroughly. Use a mild soap and water solution or a gentle pressure washer on a low setting to remove dirt, mildew, or algae. Allow the wood to dry completely before applying oil, and always follow the product instructions.
Ongoing oil maintenance
To keep your wooden garden table looking its best, apply hardwood-friendly oil two to three times during the spring and summer months, and again before winter storage. If your table is made from teak, oiling is optional—teak naturally weathers to a silver-grey finish, but teak oil can restore its original golden tone if preferred. Just be aware that once you start oiling teak, ongoing treatment is necessary.
Winter storage tips
Protect your table during the colder months by storing it in a dry, sheltered area such as a shed or garage with good airflow. Avoid keeping it in centrally heated indoor spaces, which can dry out the wood. Never cover your wooden table with plastic or non-breathable materials, as this can trap moisture and lead to rot or mould.
