Create a welcoming outdoor space with outdoor lanterns

Outdoor lanterns are an easy way to bring warmth and atmosphere to your garden or patio. Place a garden lantern on a dining table, beside a lounge chair or near a doorway to create pools of light as the evening draws in. A selection of smaller lanterns can also be grouped together to add interest around a seating area.

For a more traditional look, outdoor candle lanterns and garden candle lanterns create a soft, flickering glow. If you prefer a more convenient option, battery-operated designs provide light without the need for a candle or nearby socket.

An outdoor table lamp is particularly useful for patios, balconies and outdoor dining areas. Place one on a table when enjoying dinner outside, or use a portable lamp beside a lounge chair when reading or relaxing.

Outdoor table lamps can also be moved around as needed, making them a practical choice for flexible outdoor living. A rechargeable outdoor table lamp is especially convenient when you want cordless lighting and easy portability.

For larger spaces, consider combining table lamps with an outdoor floor lamp or other freestanding lighting. Using several light sources at different heights creates a softer and more balanced effect than relying on one bright light.

Make more of vertical space with outdoor hanging lanterns. Hang them from suitable hooks, covered areas or other appropriate structures to draw attention upwards and add atmosphere around dining and seating spaces.

Large outdoor lanterns can also make a striking feature beside a doorway, on a patio or in a larger garden. Smaller lanterns work well grouped together, while large garden lanterns can help define a particular area and create a stronger focal point.

When choosing outdoor lighting, always check the product information to make sure it is suitable for the intended location and follow the care instructions provided.

Garden lighting can be decorative as well as practical, so consider how your outdoor lamps will work with your existing furniture and accessories. Black outdoor lanterns are an easy choice for a modern garden and pair naturally with metal garden furniture, while natural materials and woven details can complement a more relaxed outdoor setting.

Mixing shapes and sizes can give your lighting arrangement a more natural feel. Try placing a couple of lanterns around a dining area, then add smaller lights near plants, pathways or garden furniture to create different points of interest.

For a simple Scandinavian-inspired look, keep the colour palette restrained and let the warm glow of the lighting provide the atmosphere.

The right lighting can make an outdoor space feel more inviting long after the sun has gone down. Pair garden lamps and lanterns with comfortable garden lounge sets, garden tables and chairs or outdoor cushions to create a space made for relaxing and entertaining.

Add garden accessories and outdoor décor for personality, or use solar lights alongside portable lanterns to create different layers of light around the garden. During periods of prolonged poor weather, storing portable lighting indoors where appropriate can help protect it and extend its lifespan.

From outdoor candle lanterns to rechargeable table lamps, the right combination of lighting makes it easier to enjoy your garden from early evening through to the later hours.
